Begin your Halloween celebration with an exploration of El Alisal, the rustic stone house built by Charles Lummis at the turn of the 20th century. Lummis, a seminal figure in early Los Angeles, built this home from river rock, and from its quarters he entertained a wide rage of prominent figures, including John Muir, Will Rogers, and Clarence Darrow. For two hours in the morning, you will be able to explore his library and his many artifacts as well as his garden, which flourishes with California native plantings. Afterwards, travel a very short distance to the Heritage Square Museum and enjoy a boxed lunch on the grounds of this living history museum that explores the settlement and development of southern California during its first 100 years of statehood. There you will experience the Annual Halloween & Mourning Tour to learn about the death and mourning etiquette during the Victorian era, the movement of Spiritualism, and how other cultures celebrate and remember their loved ones. Tour inlcudes boxed lunch, museum entrance fee, tour guide & transportation via chartered deluxe coach.
